“Rising Seas, Falling Dunes”

Ballston Beach

The Highland House Museum opens a new exhibition, Rising Seas/FallingDunes, on Friday, August 2 from 4-6 PM. This thought-provoking collection of paintings and photographs by local artists expresses their concerns about the impact of climate change on the Outer Cape. Among the artists featured are Joerg Dressler, Cherie Mittenthal, Marc Kundmann, Daniel Ranalli, Cammie Watson, Joyce Zavorska, and Alla Zbinovsky. The accompanying text spotlights the many environmental changes that are taking place, including beach erosion, dune collapses, and increased flooding. The museum has partnered with the Center for Coastal Studies, and the exhibition includes photographs by scientist Theresa Smith. Funding was provided by the Truro Part-Time Resident Taxpayers’ Association. Rising Seas/FallingDuneswill be on display at the museum through Saturday, September 28th.

We are very pleased and excited to announce the establishment of the Truro Historical Society’s Susan Howe Music & Speaker Series established in her honor due to the generosity of the Truro community, her family and her many friends and colleagues. In establishing this series, Susan’s commitment to Truro’s history and culture will live on and provide inspiration to all.

We will strive to develop and bring a program of inspiring authors, artists, historians, and musicians to the museum each season to share their knowledge and talent with the community and visitors to Truro.
