Annual Members Meeting — Friday, July 20, 2018 at 4:30 PM at the Highland House Museum

The Annual Members Meeting of the Truro Historical Society will be held on Friday, July 20, 2018 at 4:30 PM at the Highland House Museum. Along with a summary of achievements from the past year and plans for the future, amendments to the bylaws will be discussed and voted upon. Below is our Notice of Intention:

NOTICE OF INTENTION TO AMEND THE CURRENT BY-LAWS OF THE TRUROHISTORICAL SOCIETY AS FOLLOWS:

Article 1, Section 1, Mission Statement is amended and shall read as follows:

Our mission is to inspire all people to explore, discover and experience the rich heritage of Truro and the Outer Cape from valued artifacts, living history exhibits, and ongoing community interactions that emphasize their influence on society today.

Revoke in its entirety Section 15. The Executive Committee of the Truro Historical Society.

Section 15. The Executive Committee

An Executive Committee comprised of five Board members shall be appointed by the Board of Directors to act on behalf of the Board between Board Meetings. The Executive Committee shall be empowered to handle urgent issues and resolving any emergency or organizational crisis.  Said Committee shall be authorized to contract for services on behalf of the Society not to exceed $2000.00.  The Executive Committee shall report its actions to the full Board by e-mail as promptly as possible, and in no event later than the next Board meeting. Actions by the Executive Committee shall be taken by motion, and shall require affirmative vote of three members of the Executive Committee to pass.

Amend Article III. Society Meetings, Section 4 reducing the number of members to constitute a quorum to 7 members, appearing in person and entitled to vote, as more fully set forth hereinafter, to wit:

Section 4. Seven members, appearing in person and entitled to vote, shall constitute a quorum for the transaction of business at any meeting of the Society. A simple majority vote of the members present and voting shall be sufficient to take any action properly brought before a meeting. A two-thirds vote of members present is required to authorize amendment of the THS By-Laws or Certificate of Incorporation.

Introducing Susan Kurtzman – THS President

THS is pleased to announce that Susan Kurtzman was recently elected President of the Board of Directors. She’s been an active member of the Truro Historical Society and Highland House Museum for over 20 years. Susan was Curator of the Highland House Museum from 2000-2004 and has served on many of the Board committees. A full time Truro resident, Kurtzman is also the owner of JOBI Pottery, a legacy Truro business that produces JOBI Pottery and provides a gallery for local artists

Produced by Jan Worthington and Angela McNerney, “The Story of the Cobb Archive” is a video created in 2022 that tells the story of how Truro’s first public library became the repository for the Truro Historical Society’s archives.

Featuring interviews with Susan Kurtzman, Helen McNeil-Ashton, Norman Pope and Paul Morris the video features the Society’s vast collection of works on paper including books, maps and photographs.
