Edward Arthur Wilson

(March 4, 1886 – October 2, 1970)

Artist, Illustrator, Co-founder of Truro Historical Society

Edward A. Wilson illustrated more than 70 books, mainly classics, and many about the sea. Life magazine, which featured some of his work in 1945, said then of him that he was “of first rank among modern United States book illustrators.”

Wilson was born March 4, 1886 in Glasgow, Scotland, and came to this country in 1893. He also did illustrations for magazines and many national advertising campaigns. His lithographic prints are in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the New York Public Library and the Library of Congress.
