Living Legacy: Portraits and Stories of Truro Elders

“Living Legacy” is an exhibit of large format black and white portraits of Truro elders shot by photographer and artist Mason Morfit and accompanied by personal stories and memories of Truro from live interviews conducted by Ellen Anthony.

This project, which is in its fifth year, is funded by a grant from Truro Treasures, and continues the important work and project begun by writer and photographer, Helena Snow, and continued by artist Joyce Johnson.

The work will be displayed as an exhibition at the Highland House Museum from June 1 to June 30, 2019.

Our 2019 Living Legacies are: Peggotty Worthington Gilson, Carol Ramey Mooney, Paul Morris, Jane Hutchings Peters, Jane Bushey Ray, Emmanuel “Sonny” Silvia, and Dilys Merriss Staaterman.

Introducing Susan Kurtzman – THS President

THS is pleased to announce that Susan Kurtzman was recently elected President of the Board of Directors. She’s been an active member of the Truro Historical Society and Highland House Museum for over 20 years. Susan was Curator of the Highland House Museum from 2000-2004 and has served on many of the Board committees. A full time Truro resident, Kurtzman is also the owner of JOBI Pottery, a legacy Truro business that produces JOBI Pottery and provides a gallery for local artists

“I look forward to working with our talented staff and dedicated Board to bring even more great programming and museum experiences to our members and visitors .”

Produced by Jan Worthington and Angela McNerney, “The Story of the Cobb Archive” is a video created in 2022 that tells the story of how Truro’s first public library became the repository for the Truro Historical Society’s archives.

Featuring interviews with Susan Kurtzman, Helen McNeil-Ashton, Norman Pope and Paul Morris the video features the Society’s vast collection of works on paper including books, maps and photographs.
