The Shahns in Truro: Art, Archives and Story
Spend an evening with writer Lisa Mecham as she explores how the Outer Cape shaped the art and legacy of Judith Shahn, a Truro painter and printmaker whose father was the major American artist Ben Shahn.
Drawing on interviews, personal papers, and recent research in the Truro Historical Society’s Cobb Archive, Mecham will trace the Shahn family’s deep ties to Truro and reveal a family history more complex than the familiar public version. Along the way, she will offer a behind-the-scenes look at archival research and the vital role local historical societies play in preserving the details that can transform how a story is understood.
