SUMMARY:Truro and Its Clams: The Untold Story, with Parker Small
DESCRIPTION:There was a time when the waters off Cold Storage Beach were alive with surf clams, providing food, livelihoods, and a healthy marine ecosystem. Today, those once-abundant clam beds have largely disappeared.\nJoin Parker Small Jr.—scientist, lifelong Truro summer resident, and grandson of the family who owned the historic Highland House—for a fascinating look at one man’s mission to help bring them back.\nDrawing on decades of scientific research, local history, and a deep connection to Truro’s shores, Parker will share his innovative proposal to restore surf clam populations by creating spawning sanctuaries in Truro. Along the way, he’ll explore why clams matter, how they help keep our waters healthy, and what restoring them could mean for the future of our coastal environment.\nA story of science, stewardship, and hope—rooted in Truro’s past and looking toward its future.\nPart of our free summer series, all are welcome; donations are gratefully appreciated.\nDue to limited seating in our exhibition hall, advance registration is required.\nImportant: Your reservation is not complete until you receive a confirmation receipt from the Truro Historical Society in your email inbox. If you do not receive a confirmation email, your registration was not successfully submitted. Please check your spam or junk folder, or contact us and we’ll be happy to assist you.\n
