Jobi™ Pottery is an original Truro cottage industry that began in 1953 in a hot dog shack next to the Highland Cape Cod Lighthouse. This year Jobi™ Pottery celebrates 65 years in Truro.
Owner/designer Susan Kurtzman will give a historical overview of 65 years of Jobi Pottery and presentation on how the handmade pottery is made using traditional Jobi techniques.
The original owners Joe Colliano and Bill Hastings named their business “Jobi” – a contraction of their two names, Joe and Bill. Their little pottery business was a stopping point for thousands of Cape Cod visitors in the 1950s, 60s and 70s who bought their hand made pottery adorned with fish, cattails, blueberries, lighthouses and other Cape Cod designs.
The Locke family bought the business in the mid 1970s and in2003 Susan bought it. Joe Colliano came out of retirement to help Susan learn the hand painting of each Jobi design and Steve Locke joined as production manager. Today Jobi Pottery has both a large studio and gallery, in Truro, and continues the Jobi tradition of hand-made Cape Cod pottery.
